Today, me and Courtney carried on again with the storyboard. We created another 3 sections of our storyvoard, and we also changed one of the previous shots on the last box of the first page as we changed the idea of what location we could use for that shot. Here's our progress:

Progress of storyboard-
Today, Courtney wasn't here. However, I carried on with the storyboard and I made some progress with it, I got up to the last line of the chorus, and I annotated all of the shots, locations, lighting etc. I now have a much clearer understanding of how we are going to film our shots and I feel more prepared to film as I storyboard more. Here is the progress that has been made in today's lesson. We also decided to make a dice with words such as reality, fake, imagination etc. We would then show the main girl actor roll the dice and it would land on something such as imagination.

Task 5- Team roles:
Within this video, the team consists of me and Courtney Carr. Mine and Courtney's roles are:
Me (Lyle Barrett): Actor and producer. I will be doing some filming as well, but as I will be taking part in the video, I won't be doing as much filming. I am also going to be designing the props and ensure the location release form with my mum.
Courtney Carr: Courtney is the producer and the director of this music video- All in my head by Tori Kelly.
Our aim is to produce a clear and creative video and work very well together.

Task 5- Pre- production storyboards-
Today, me and Courtney started to create our storyboards. We decided that we would include the most significant and main shots that are going to be shown in our video to tell the story. In the picture below is just the start of our story boarding, and we have included some detail about each shot and the locations, props etc. We are going to be showing our progression of this over the next few days.

Analysis of lyrics (extra work)
Before making a start on the story board, me and Courtbey decided to analyse the lyrics to the track we are doing "All in my head" by Tori Kelly.
In the picture below, we analysed the lyrics by deciding what shots we are going to use and show within certain parts of the video go match certain lyrics. We also decided the locations we are going to use in each part of the video and the special effects/transitions. Furthermore, we decided what parts of the song we are going to show her imagining things and which part is reality.
I thought that this would be useful to do this before we made the storyboard as it would give us a more clearer and better understanding of what we want to include at specific points. I found this very useful and it helped me think more efficiently.

Treatment pitch: Task 3 and 4-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COb8o8YEe1A
Today, Me and Courtney pitched our treatment plan to the class. We described and explained our ideas of what we are going include within our video. Once we explained to the class that are video is going to be narrative-based, the class responded positively as they thought this fit the idea and beat of the song. The class believed that the storyline that we are going to be portraying throughout the video fits the music track really well.
We received some feedback from our class and our teacher. The responses we got were:
. Include something that the guy likes/owns or a place he goes to,and show the girl being obsessed with it e.g. a piece of clothing, location etc, and have it as one of our key scenes within our video and keep cutting back to it.
.We also received an idea of having the relationship that is being portrayed as a homosexual relationship rather than a heterosexual relationship.
.Include some more performance within the video e.g. more lip synching.
What have we decided to change about our treatment?
Once we received the feedback, me and Courtney discussed if we were going to make any changes to make our video even better. We decided to take some of the feedback on board. For example, we believe that we including something that the girl is obsessed with would be a good idea, especially to have it as a key element. The place we are going to use that she is obsessed with is the forest. This would be because it is somewhere they always went when they were younger. So she would constantly go to the forest because it represents isolation/being alone, and this is how she feels
We are also going to add more lip synching, so therefore the video will be more performance based. However, we are not going to include the idea about showing a homosexual relationship as we believe that it will be hard to find the actors to feel comfortable with doing this.
Furthermore, in the beginning of the video, we are going to show what she is imagining, and then halfway through the cutting rate speeds up, and there are loads of scenes/images to show reality. Then in the second half of the video, we are showing her watching the guy she has feelings for with another girl.

Task 3- Treatment and brainstorming ideas-
A summary of the narrative idea and how it links to the lyrics-
The idea that we have is based on love and emotions. We decided to show what's happening through the girls perspective. We have thought about showing the good/cute moments that this girl has had with this guy. This relates to the lyrics because we are experiencing her thoughts/emotions that are going through her head. All of the good moments that will be shown, will be shown in a romantic way e.g walking in the forest holding hands.
We are also going to show two stories within this music video. We are going to show the relationship between the girl and the guy and what she wishes for, vs reality.
In the beginning of the video, we have an idea of the girl and guy facing each other, and she speaks to him but gets no response. This is before the music track begins. Then at the end of the video, it will parallel back to the start, and he says " I have to see the other girl" or something similar to that.
Professional music videos/songs that inspired us-
During the summer, we had some case studies that we analysed, songs with and without music videos. A track that did inspire us that has no existing video is "Helplessly" by Tatiana Manaois. This song inspired us purely because it's based on love/an attraction a girl has towards a guy. This relates to our video because it has the same concept. She feels good about it, yet also bad due to the mixed signals/distractions. The track that inspired us that had a music video was called "Fire We Make" by Alicia Keys. It inspired us because it is also based on a love story, even though it took a more sensual approach, it still inspired us for our music video. For example, sexual scenes within that music video. The lyrics for this video relates to our music track because the two people who have an attraction towards each other are never really together in a relationship, but they do have feelings for each other. This is like the music track "All in my head" by Tori Kelly which we are doing as they are never in a relationship but she shows how she has an attraction towards him.
Casting/actors, props, location(s)-
In terms of actors, we are going to use two main young adults, one male, one female to play the role in our story for the music track. Furthermore, we are going to use other young adults to take part in our music video, they will be within the crowd in certain scenes. Due to our target audience being young adults, we believe that using people of this age would allow people to relate to the actors. For the use of props, we were thinking of using love notes as one of our props, we are definitely going to use other props, but we are still in the process of thinking of props that would be necessary to use. The locations we are deciding to use are:
.A forest
.A bedroom/housing area.
.An isolated room
.A street
.A park
Ethical considerations-
In our video, we are going to be pushing into the boundary of mental health. She is not mentally ill, but we will be making it clear that we are experiencing her thoughts and imagining what could happen.
.Isolation- She ends up by herself by the end of the video as she did get the wrong signals.
.Explicit scenery- We don't know how much of this will be included in our music video, but there will be elements of sensual scenes.
Length of our video-
The maximum length for our video will approximately be 3.5 minutes overall, due to verbal communications at the beginning and end of the video, therefore it may be a little bit longer.
Audience-
The target audience for our video will be young adults. They will be aged between 16-24 year olds. We chose this age range because we believe that people of this age will be able to relate to this narrative the most. Also, stereotypically, love stories happen within this age range as people imagine things when they are around this age.
Niche audience- Our music video could also apply to those of an older age as many people experience these feelings throughout their lives, and many people are confused about their emotions. There are many forms of audience, but we believe these are the most targeting.
Where would we broadcast our video?
-Youtube: This is a very successful video sharing platform which would allow people from around the world to have access to our music video. As this technology is part of social media, it would make our video easier to be shared.
-Facebook: By making a Facebook page for this music video, it would allow people to interact and comment on the video about what they feel/think about it, and they would also be able to join our page. This is also another way of sharing our videos.

Brainstorming ideas for our video-
Today, I got into my group for the real music video. We then shared our ideas and decided to choose a track. The track we chose to do is Tori Kelly- All in my head. We chose this track because it is full of many emotions and it sprung many ideas that we could use in our video. The song is based on a girl who is in love with a guy, but not knowing if he feels the same back. Therefore, she wonders if it's all in her head.
Here is some rough notes of what the video is about:

Evaluation of practice task-
Planning-
Strengths:
I believe that we planned the practice task for the music
video quite well. As a group, we took our time to analyse the lyrics for the
part of the video we were going to the film. We looked at every word/line
within our section and thought about the most necessary shots and locations to
make our video look good. We thought clearly about what actions to also do to
each lyrics to make our video appealing.
Weaknesses:
I feel like as a group, we should have planned the section
for our music video a bit more thoroughly. Although I felt like we analysed it
good, it wasn’t good enough. We could have added more detail to it which would
have made our video to a better standard if done so.
Group
work-
Strengths:
Everyone had a certain job to do e.g. planning, filming,
editing, therefore no one was left to do nothing and we all knew what we had to
do to make a good video. Also, we all helped each other out when we needed some
help/advice from one another. This was very useful because we got each other’s
opinions/perspectives.
Weaknesses:
I feel as if we worked well together, however not everyone
put in the same amount of effort. Some people worked harder than others, also
some people took it more seriously than others. Therefore, I feel like two of
us worked well together, however someone didn’t put in as much effort as
required. Therefore this was a weakness of the group as some worked harder than
others.
Technical
skills: camera and editing-
Strengths:
I feel that a strength of our camera skills was that we
knew what shots we were going to use within the extract of filming for this
practice music video. Also, we had planned as a group to use the zoom on the
camera so that when it zoomed in and out, he fit the beat of the song. A
strength of our editing skills was that we picked up how to do certain things
e.g. adding effects quite easily. We also were quite good at choosing the right
effect to fit the lyrics to the song.
Weaknesses:
I feel like we could have improved our camera skills
dramatically. This is because we didn’t use more than one camera angle.
Throughout the extract of the song that we filmed, we stayed in one location
and we didn’t move the camera at all. All we done was use the zoom on the
camera to have different shots. We didn’t use any close ups, extreme close ups
or film in different locations. I feel like this was a major weakness in our
camera skills and we have all definitely learnt from it, and therefore we now
know how important it is to use a much wider variety of camera angles/shots. We
also didn’t film for that long, therefore we should have done a bit more of the
song we were given (Happy- Pharrell Williams). A weakness in our editing skills
is that we could have done more filming, therefore we could have edited more as
we didn’t have to edit as much as we should have.
Creative
skills: Ideas and directing-
Strengths:
In terms of ideas, we all had an agreement on the ideas we
had. We all had similar thinking, therefore we put all three of our ideas
together and made it in to one bigger idea. We also planned what location would
fit best, and who would be best to act out the lip synching.
Weaknesses:
I believe that a weakness in our ideas was that we did not
have enough ideas and we didn’t brainstorm/plan it enough. I feel as if we done
things too basic. I feel like if we had a more detailed plan/main idea, then
our video would have come out better than it did. Our video wasn’t bad, but
better ideas would have gave us a much better video overall.
Three targets for improvement:
.Plan my ideas more thoroughly
.Add a much wider range/variety of camera angles/shots.
.Always film more than you think you need.
Overall, I believe that the process of this task was very useful for a variety of things. I enjoyed doing this practice task as it gave me some new ideas and it opened up some ideas and things that I need to do differently for the real music video. This practice task taught me how to do things differently, and how to plan/prepare for the real thing. Therefore, this practice task was a very useful thing for me as it has really helped.

Editing for the practice task-
We finished our footage for the filming of the practice task. Today we went into the editing suite, and we were given an induction of how to use Final Cut Pro to edit our videos.
The first picture shows the unedited piece of our work. It has just been uploaded to Final Cut Pro and we chose the clip that we wanted to use. We done this by clicking 'Ctrl and I' and 'Ctrl and O' to select the part of the clip we wanted to use.
In the second picture, we had made edits to the clip. I learnt how to cut parts of the video to get rid of unnecessary filming, and to cut it so that it finishes with the sound track that we were using. I also learnt how to mute the actual recording so that we could only hear the music track.
In the third picture is our final product. I learnt how to render on Final Cut Pro. At first I found this a bit complicated. However once I kept trying it to remember how it was done, it was no longer complicated. In this final product, I also learnt how to add effects to the piece of filming. I found this quite easy as there was not much to learn and know how to add the effect to this piece. We added two effects to the filming of this practice task. We added a fade into darkness at the end of the video, and we added a coloured effect midway/towards the end of the video which fit the lyrics.

Practice task- Planning of shots
Here, me and my group decided and wrote up the shots that we were thinking of using for our practice task. We decided to have a range of shots to fit the music song we are doing.
Practice task-
Today we took our ideas that we had thought of into work. Once we had been equipped with the camera and tripod, we decided to go to the field and film some lip syncing for our practice task.
We used a range of shots, for example, an establishing shot, medium close up and more. We decided that the field was a necessary location as it fit the mood of the song (Happy by Pharell Williams).
Here is us in mid shoot, filming our practice task.

Practice task-
Today we gathered ourselves into groups of three. The people I am working with are Courtney and Syntiche for this practice task. As a group, we decided to do the song "Happy" by Pharell Williams. We printed the lyrics and begun to analyse the lyrics from this song. We also decided the shots we are going to process into our practice task. This is just the beginning of our analysis.
